If there was any conclusion to sum up this week's homemade dishes, it was that asian, or more specifically, Chinese food, are much harder to cook than western ones - at least from those I've attempted this week. I still have quite a bit of ingredients left in the kitchen and I'm feeling quite guilty if I purchased more, but I can't resist trying out other dishes!
I manage to attempt many new dishes and cook on my own more, in which I feel that I'm gaining more confidence in myself!
There were a few failures I had this week, but fortunately, nothing that wasn't edible but could have been better. Also there were little tiny achievements this week for me like making an omelette heh! Cooking rice in a pot was a struggle for me I couldn't get it right, but I'm hopeful I will - it's hard to measure precisely how much water to put without a proper cup or a rice cooker. I'm hoping to attempt to some Japanese recipes I got from my hostel mates next week, quite excited and partially weary haha.
Day 1 Dinner
My first attempt to cook minced meat Tao Oei taught, turned out surprisingly well :)! // Alaskan Fish + Tomato paste with onions + pasta and mash potatoes // We had bit of pasta left so I ate it for lunch the next day.
Day 2 Lunch
Leftover pasta with minced pork bolognese // I almost overcooked my pasta and meat but I didn't heh. Lesson of the day: the secret is to always add water to the dish while you're cooking // It was said that I shouldn't add pepper to this dish. // Enjoyed eating this!
Day 3 Dinner
This dinner was special, it was a surprise birthday dinner for Shuchi by the Japanese exchange students here! But he was busy and couldn't make in the end heh +_+ // I'm so glad they invited us Singaporeans because their dishes were so amazingly delicious?! And Japanese people are so niceee! I can't wait to try to cook some of them in the coming weeks! ONIGIRI ANYONE!!
Day 4 Lunch
Garlic rice with sausages + FAILED omelette + Garlic Spanet (Spinach) // My first attempt in cooking almost anything here! The rice (taught by Clement!) which turned out alright but needed a bit more water! Too much garlic in my opinion// My failed omelette turned out surprisingly good in terms of taste so at least that went well heh! // I WILL IMPROVE
Day 5 Lunch
Quick lunch! // First time cooking instant noodles from a pot, I know, how hard can it get but it's my debut cooking this hahaha. Added an egg and spinach for a more "balanced" meal heh.
Day 5 Dinner
Had a waffles party at a Singapore-Swedish couple's house!! They were so welcoming and the house was so big yet cozy! I felt so guilty to had eaten 3 of these T_T but the waffles were too good
Day 6 Lunch
Rice + Omelette + Spinach + Dark sauce minced meat = a very chinese dish! // Added too much water for the rice today! The texture of the rice felt so weird :( // Pork had a little too much water to me// Side note, I attempted and successfully flipped an omelette on a very sticky pan and it tasted awesome, woohoo! The spinach tasted great!
Day 6 Dinner
I finally figured out the rice part as taught by clement again and yea I'm looking forward to give it a go next week :) // cooked mix vegetables today with garlic and salt. It turned out pretty good!
Day 7 Tea break!
Church food! I didn't prepare anything but I thought I should add in this because it was so delectable and also everything was homemade which fits the title (the bread was baked by one of the church members, cool right?!)
Day 7 Lunch
Simple bacon + spinach + buttered crispy bread lunch. It was pretty nice I guess, but I must say this is a pretty good picture I took of my food, it's literally no filter.
Day 7 Dinner
Cooked the meatballs today, but I wouldn't exactly call it cooking since it was already precooked but they were no doubt tasty! Probably the most westernised and sinful meal I had this week, feeling bit guilty eating so much. Time for some exercise! But first, readings.>>>>>.>>>>>
